Sweet, right? I love Cinderella . . . but I love it for the fairy tale, the fairy step mother, and because of Gus (he's adorable). I certainly don't love it because of the glass slipper or because of how her foot slips into the glass slipper.
You're probably wondering why I am writing about Cinderella and her feet right? On GMA this morning, there was a segment about a surgery called "Cinderella surgery" . . . where women are altering their feet in one way or another. The premise behind the surgery is that the it helps women whose feet are causing pain, but let's be honest .... that would be just called foot surgery. Giving this the title "Cinderella surgery" tell us that something more is behind this foot fairy tale.
After hearing this report on the news, I looked into it a bit more, because it just sounded completed ludicrous. I kid you not, the title of an article I read was "Gross 'Cinderella Surgery' Can Make Your Shoe-Dreams Come True" OK: Who has shoe dreams that require surgery? This makes zero sense to me . . . . surgery so a person can wear designer heels. I like designer shoes as much as the next person, but to be honest, I don't have the money to spend on designer shoes and I certainly don't have the money to have a surgery on my feet in order to fit into those designer shoes.
Before I continue, let me say - I'm not meaning to sound judgmental. If you want designer shoes, more power to you. If you want surgery to wear those shoes ...well, then, I hope you love your feet after that.
So, the surgery can lengthen or shorten toes, remove corn or bunions, and even make feet and toes look thinner. Yes, toe lipo. While looking up info about this, I also saw that some people are requesting "engagement ring hand lifts" and "picture perfect selfie surgery" . . . Maybe I'm naive, but I just can't believe that these things are real.
But they are! So, my question is -- what does that say about our society? Women are so insecure that they are willing to have SURGERY to make every single aspect of their bodies perfect. Even their feet! One woman interviewed talked about how she hated her feet and wanted to be able to wear fancy heels but couldn't. So, she had toe lipo and shortened the length of her toes. She then "oohed" and "ached" over how pretty her little feet are and that she can now wear the heels she wanted. I mean, I'm happy she was excited and I really hope it was worth it.
I don't like feet in general; I think they're gross. But not gross enough that I would want myself or anyone else I know to put themselves through this. My sister jokes about how ugly my feet are ...and believe me, they ARE ugly . . . strange shape, long skinny toes ...UGLY. But they're my ugly feet and, unless necessary, I'm going to keep my ugly feet, even if they don't fit into a glass slipper. I don't need a glass slipper to live my fairy tale; I just need love and happiness.
